About Me

Hello! I'm Mindy Farmer. I grew up in the Northwest, but I've called the Midwest "home" for the past 16 years. As a mom of four, public librarian, and educator, I am passionate about literacy, education, and community. I have always valued public service as an important way to contribute to my community. Participating on the Perry School Board offers an opportunity for me to volunteer my time to advocate for a positive, engaging, and safe learning environment for every student and teacher. As someone with experience as a parent, teacher, and community member in Perry, I bring a compassionate understanding of the different needs and interests of the people within our district.

What is "People Over Politics?"

Being community-focused embraces the diversity of individuals, families, and professionals that live and work in Perry School District. When we focus on politics, we have a tendency to generalize groups of people, and that can result in belittling, ignoring, or demonizing them. When we focus on people, we see them as distinct individuals with real concerns, important needs, and unique insight. This "people perspective" makes room for compassionate communication, increased understanding, and a shared commitment to positive problem-solving.

A Place to Thrive

As a parent and former teacher, I've often wrestled with the difficulties of balancing a school environment that stretches students and inspires the best in them, while remaining compassionate and responsive to individual needs and challenges. As a school board member, I will consider ways to help our students thrive in our schools and rise to expectations that can prepare them for bright futures. At the same time, I want to encourage a compassionate environment that is responsive to and flexible for  individual circumstances. How do we find this balance? By listening to and working with teachers, parents, and students invested in a thriving school community for all.
